So today I went through a graduation audit to try and meet the summer graduation application deadline. Lo and behold, I found out that I was able to submit a late application for spring graduation! So come May I will have my MS in hand.

ALRIGHT. Can you believe it's almost 7th already? This year is going on fast as hell. And here's the ah... second important release of the year (first was autotunegirl's solo). ZE:A or Child Of Empire (name that I loved, they should have kept it) is finally debuting after many financial issues that put their label, Star Empire, dancing on the fire. Judging the songs themselves, there's nothing really new or fresh on their sound. It sounds like all the boybands now, autotuned and hot tracks. Don't expect something old school, this is just like 2PM and BEAST stuff. Again: I am not saying that they are no good, just saying that the songs have nothing new or especially noticeable, though I think they're catchy enough to bring some success to the group.

Let's say Grad Student A did an experiment with a particular hypothesis. In so doing, A collected a lot of peripherally related information.

Upon data analysis, Grad Student A's hypothesis did not turn out so well. Grad Student B says, "Hey, you have this data for another idea I had... mind running some quick stats to see if that bears out?"

Suppose B's hypothesis DID in fact work out. A shows the data to their adviser who immediately comes in his pants because the data are so interesting and remarkable (despite the fact this is not what A set out to study).

Does B deserve any authorship on the paper, even though all B really contributed was, "Hey, what about..."?

Hey all. Having some major unhappy issues in grad school. Aside from being utterly sick of the experience, all my paths to getting out of it have been blocked. I'm 'so close' to being done, though, that it doesn't make much sense to quit now. All classes are done, just need to defend and finish writing.

But...

I was set to graduate sometime this semester, and this was acknowledged by my advisor. I've been here for 2.5 years, long since finished with my requirements, so I'm registering for just three credits hours this semester.

Early December, however, my advisor revealed to me that he'd be out of town starting from mid-December to mid-February. As unwelcomed as this news was, I was told he'd be in contact and help me through writing my thesis and finishing up some of the data processing.

I emailed him on 14 December asking for help, and was told that he'd help after a major international meeting. I got no response, so yesterday I emailed him again. He said he wouldn't have time to help me at all until he got back in mid-February.

I'm totally panicked now. I was planning on getting out in March (I have a life, an apartment, all ready to get on to), but that isn't even possible now, I don't think?

My other committee member lives in Mexico and has poor communication. My third committee member will be getting back from Antarctica 20 Jan.

This SUCKS. Any advice?

3. Wiire.com's podcast is actually pretty decent, I like it.

Something simple. My neighbors had.. one of the Resident evil games for the Wii, and.. Dead Rising? Both were ok, but I kinda need something a little simpler and more mindless to blow off some frustration w/ falling into the dang cravasses in world 3-1 AGAIN.

Any suggestions for a decent game, something on the level of a modern "Doom" or something? Lotsa weapons, but simple controls?

I am the proud new owner of a Wii system (clearly an early adopter here). Anyway, I also now own two workout games:

My Fitness Coach
Your Shape

My Fitness Coach allows you to focus on cardio (which is where I really need to start) but Your Shape, which comes with a camera and follows your movements actually helps you know if you are using correct form, etc.

Do any of you use the Wii to workout? Do you have either/both of these games? I'm trying to figure out the best way to combine these into a single program.

Also, any general game recommendations? I clearly need to buy the New Super Mario Bros game but beyond that I'm not really up on what the latest games are. The last gaming system I played regularly was a SNES. : D
